Who It's For
Communications and PR teams benchmarking their media presence against competitors. Corporate affairs teams monitoring sector narratives.
What It Delivers
The Share of Voice analysis tells you where you stand in the media landscape relative to the organisations you compete with for attention, credibility, and narrative ownership. The report quantifies your share of total coverage, weighted by source influence and topic relevance, across the channels and timeframes that matter for your sector.
Beyond raw share figures, the analysis produces narrative ownership indices — showing which entity has established itself as the dominant voice on each topic cluster — and bootstrap confidence intervals that quantify measurement uncertainty so you know how much weight to place on the numbers. Three output formats serve different audiences: Excel for data and analytics teams, DOCX for strategic briefs, PPTX for executive and board presentations.
How It Works
The pipeline begins with industry-neutral media sourcing: coverage is harvested across the full competitive landscape without applying a house-brand filter first. Entity extraction then identifies every mention, quote, attributed statement, and reference for each organisation in the competitive set — distinguishing between being mentioned and being cited as an authority matters significantly for SOV quality.
SOV computation calculates both raw and weighted share across channels, timeframes, and topic clusters. Bootstrap confidence intervals are applied at the computation stage, using resampling to quantify how stable the share estimates are given the underlying coverage volume. Narrative ownership indices are derived from a combination of frequency, placement, and framing — identifying not just who is mentioned most, but who is setting the terms of discussion on each topic.
The nine-stage pipeline is designed to run on a defined competitive set and time window, producing a point-in-time benchmark. Repeat runs against rolling windows generate trend data for tracking share movement over time.
Who It’s For
Communications and PR teams running competitive benchmarking ahead of campaigns or strategic reviews. Corporate affairs teams monitoring how their sector narrative is forming and which organisations are shaping it. Any team that needs to answer the question “where do we stand in the media conversation?” with data rather than impression.
