Strategy Audit at Bain-Grade Quality

Strategy Workshop GLOBAL Strategic Popoltastic
35 Strategy criteria scored
4 Deliverable types
20+ Research sources per audit

The Challenge

Strategy audits at the quality level delivered by Bain, BCG, or McKinsey are expensive because they are labour-intensive. The research preparation alone — company history, industry dynamics, competitive positioning, financial trajectory, organisational structure — takes a team of analysts weeks to compile. The interview design requires experienced consultants who understand both the methodology and the client’s specific context. The deliverable production demands formatting, branding, and editorial work that adds further time and cost.

Top-tier firms charge accordingly. For boutique strategy consultancies, this creates a structural ceiling: they have the methodological expertise and the client relationships, but they cannot match the research and production capacity that justifies enterprise-grade pricing. The audit quality gap is real, and it limits the contracts they can credibly pursue.

Strategic Popoltastic approached Stromy with this problem directly. They had a rigorous methodology — the Rule of Three framework — and experienced consultants who could deliver genuine strategic insight. What they needed was an AI system that could close the preparation and production gap, allowing their consultants to focus entirely on the work that required human judgment.

Our Approach

We built an AI workflow that implements the Rule of Three methodology end-to-end. The system begins with a pre-meeting preparation package: automated research across twenty-plus sources compiles company background, industry context, competitive landscape, and recent developments. The workflow then maps organisational roles to interview functions, generates transversal interview questions applicable across all roles, and produces role-specific question packs for each participant in the strategy session.

The assessment engine scores the client’s strategy across thirty-five criteria organised into defined strategic categories. Each criterion is scored from evidence gathered during the research phase, with the AI assembling the evidentiary basis for each score and flagging where additional human investigation is needed. The scoring is transparent: consultants can review the evidence, adjust scores based on their direct observation, and override AI assessments where their judgment differs.

The deliverable suite is produced as branded documents ready for client presentation: a role packages workbook in Excel, a workshop preparation deck in PowerPoint, an interview and document request list in Word, and the full strategy audit report. All outputs apply the consultancy’s brand — typography, colour, logo placement, document structure — automatically.

The Outcome

Strategic Popoltastic now delivers strategy audits that stand comparison with those produced by firms ten times their size. The preparation work that previously consumed two weeks of analyst time is completed by the AI system in hours. Consultants arrive at strategy sessions with a research foundation that would previously have required a full junior team to assemble, and they leave with a deliverable production pipeline that converts the session outputs into branded client documents the same day.

The methodology advantage that boutique firms have always had — senior consultants in the room, genuine client attention, no delegation to junior staff — is now matched by AI-driven research and production capacity. The audit price point reflects the quality delivered, not the headcount required to produce it.
